When it comes to kids, it seems that nothing is more fun than playing with their food. Thanks to the Family Review Network my daughter and I had the opportunity to review the new iCarly DVD. This DVD not only includes espisodes from season 1, but also has some great special features like Behind-the-Scene Extras and Behind the Slime with the cast of iCarly.

iCarly is definitely a family favorite for us. As a mom, I appreciate being able to sit down and enjoy a show with our tween and teen knowing that there won’t be content that isn’t age appropriate.

My teenager daughter, Mackenzie, has expressed in her own words what she thinks about the iCarly show and DVD:

Carly is a fun, life loving girl that lives life to the very fullest. Nothing can bring her down because she has two amazing friends named Sam and Freddie, along with her crazy older brother Spencer that helps her through anything.

The friends, still in high school, host one of the most popular web shows on the internet: iCarly.com. They do whatever they are in the mood for and are euphoric to show other people what random stuff they can come up with. From messing with Sam’s boyfriends to tricking their love-sickened teacher, these three can do anything they can think up.

I admire how Carly is just so relatable. She’s nice and caring, smart and original and totally down to earth, yet still way up in the clouds.

But, being as the site is so popular, there are tons of people trying to take them down. Carly, Sam and Freddie face loads of obstacles, as comes with all good things.

On these DVDs, there are 12 episodes of non-stop fun consisting of crazy fans, horrible shoes, detention, teachers, and of course, Gibby!

Personally, I love how outgoing Carly is, how fanatical Sam is, and how incredibly intellectual Freddie is. I love how the teachers are weird, Spencer is not only goofy, but amazingly creative and Sam and Freddie are loyal to a fault.

But the best part of all: watching the shows with no commercials. See, I’m one of those people that despise, loath and detest commercials; to get one of my favorite shows commercial free is…it’s…I’m at a loss for words, actually, for how unbelievable, incredible, insane, breathtaking, astonishing, mind-boggling, astounding, amazing, outrageous, indescribable, perfect and…and…flat-out AWESOME (okay, not that lost for words)!!!

I would definitely buy Season 1 Volume 2 of iCarly, no questions asked.

This iCarly DVD can be purchased at just about any retailer. I found it at Amazon for $18.99. While I think this would make a great birthday gift for an iCarly fan, my only drawback would be paying almost $20 for it. In this economy, I’d wait until the price comes down or it goes on sale.

Thanks to the Family Review Network, I was able to participate in a review of Bright Star Kids’ products. I chose the Chalkboard Wall Panel Graphics in Ocean Blue and Lovely Lime, which are reasonably priced at $35.03. Seems an odd price doesn’t it, but then Bright Star Kids is an Australian company that creates Wall Stickers, Kids Labels, Wall Art and more. They’ve covered just about every angle when it comes to decorating kids’ rooms.

So I enlisted the help of my 14 year-old daughter to decorate a long hallway with these handy Chalkboard Wall Panels. It was a cinch! The colored panels are very easy to peel and adjust and although the chalkboard panels are definitely more sticky, if you’re quick those can be re-adjusted as well.

Once they were up, there was no holding my daughter back. She went to town with ideas on how we could put these panels to use.  I was relegated to being the picture taker of her creations. Perhaps it’s best if I let the pictures show her ideas.

I actually gave this book to my 10 yo son for Christmas, but he had already started on his Godzilla book and didn’t want to start the Curse of the Bone Pirates until he was done. So, I asked my 14 yo daughter to read it…this morning. Of course, her brother was very specific about her not bending up the book because he is very excited about reading it as well. Can I just say how impressed I am that she not only read it, but wrote her own review. Behold:

Curse of the Bone Pirates, a Nui Island Eco-Logical Adventure by B.T. Hope (Brian Machovina and Tina DiCicco) is probably among my favorite books now. I mean, it’s not really my genera, but I’m willing to make an exception for this book.

Big B brings the book to life as an easily relatable and incredibly human boy – as shown with the Rocco’s Pizza’s front window incident. And his hair is totally crazy! (love it!) I think what really got me about Big B was that he’s really just a kid from Chicago making the transition to Nui Island life. He ate candy bars, he has an iPod, cell phone, he skateboards; Big B’s just an average kid.

Sam brings girl-power new meaning. Purple and lavender hair, knowledge of everything that goes on at Professor Prune’s not-so-farmy farm, her flawless love for nature, her speed and agility, and her simple wisdom makes me rejoice in being a girl!

Nalu’s the smooth-over guy of the story. (By the way, I think his orange hair is wicked awesome too.) He’s laid-back and just plain lovable.

Professor Prune – Big B’s grandpa, eco-logical genius and all around good guy working to help nature along in any way he can – had something happen to scramble his brain a bit.

And somethings been going on ever since Big B’s arrived on the island. Something to do with the Bone Pirates, and maybe even Professor Prune’s jumbled thoughts and speech.

But can Big B, Sam, and Nalu – three utterly regular kids – find his mind and stay alive in the process?

I’m not telling! Muahaha!

Besides, if you buy Curse of the Bone Pirates, you’re buying a book printed on recycled paper with soy inks! And Nui donates $1 from every copy sold to “charities that empower youth.” And add to that, the publisher, Greenleaf Book Group, operates a Tree Neutral program that plants trees to balance out our extensive use of trees.

If that hasn’t totally bent you on getting this book, check this out: Curse of the Bone Pirates really has Nui Island as a major natural recycling/reusing/scientifical paradise. Meaning it really gives examples of stuff the island does to keep their environment healthy. Plus the story includes true environment facts. Like how not all bacterias are bad! There are some bacteria that are actually really good, and they battle the bad bacteria. Not to mention that bacteria is the oldest living life form on Earth. I did not know that. Radical, right?

Alright, I’ve done my best to get you hooked on the Curse of the Bone Pirates. So if I haven’t, I’m sorry. Yet may I add that you’d majorly be missing out on a tubular adventure.

Note: the seal of approval on the cover states “safe for adults with kid supervision.” Another “Note:” I back this statement entirely.

The Curse of the Bone Pirates can be purchased at Nui’s online store for $11.95 and really would make a wonderful birthday gift.

We can all certainly agree that the hunt for ancient relics is not a 8 to 5 job, it is life consuming and Flynn Carsen has just about had enough. He wants a real life that involves a steady romantic relationship and his own schedule, however, it’s not long before he finds out that he is needed to prevent an evil vampire’s plot to use the Judas Chalice to bring the notorious Prince Vlad Dracul back to life so he can wreck havoc on the world and rescue a kidnapped professor (Bruce Davison, X-Men, Knight Rider) with the help of a beautiful nightclub singer (Stana Katic, Feast of Love) who has made it her life mission to protect the Judas Chalice from falling into the wrong hands.

I’ve enjoyed the other two installments of The Librarian (Quest for the Spear and Return to King Solomon’s Mines) and was looking forward to the premiere of The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice, but then I’m a huge fan of all the Indian Jones and National Treasure movies. This made-for-TV movie did not disappoint.

I was hooked from the get-go with Flynn’s frustration in not being able to lead a normal life and his hilarious antics trying to explain this to Charlene (Jane Curtin) and Judson (Bob Newhart) who don’t understand and offer up a pretty lame pep talk. I’ve always like Bob Newharts dry sense of humor on screen and Jane Curtin’s overly excitable personality – like when Flynn is overspending in an auction.

So off Flynn goes to New Orleans for a little R&R and happens upon a beautiful night club singer, Simone Renoir (Stana Katic) who captivated Flynn with her soulful and passionate singing. The chemistry between Flynn and Simone is dynamic and they make a great duo fighting for the good of the world. In this video you’ll see Stana’s audition for the new leading lady and I wholeheartedly agree with the directors/producers that is certainly someone to keep our eyes on. She is a very talented actress and I look forward to seeing what role she plays in next.

The nefarious vampire with the evil plot captures Professor Lazlo (Bruce Davison) so he can help them recover the Judas Chalice. Flynn and Simone fight to rescue the professor and keep the Judas Chalice safe, but run into some complications. The movie took some twists that kept me riveted to the screen and as with any movie featuring fictional beings, there will be specific effects which were well done considering this is a made-for-TV movie.

So get ready to enjoy the world’s most unlikely hero for his final adventure in The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice premiering on Sunday, December 7th, 8/7c on TNT followed by the series premiere of Leverage.

Yes, it is true…dogs have owners and cats have staff. Dogs are taken for walks by their owners, play fetch and usually come when they are called. Cats…well, I can tell you from experience that they don’t like leases and do not like to go on walks (it’s a long story and I’ll share it sometime soon). Cats also do not fetch – it is quite beneath them to act in such a way and the only time my cat, Duchess, comes when I call is because she feels like getting up to stretch. Still, I adore the little fur ball and would have it no other way.

Being that I am a cat lover, I threw my name in the hat to evaluate a new humorous cattitude book and was not disappointed. Jane Seabrook’s new addition to the popular Furry Logic books, Purry Logic, is filled with wry witticisms to perk up even the most finicky cat lovers. I shared my delight with Duchess, who obviously was a thrilled as me.

As I was reading through the pages, relating to several cattiudes Duchess exhibits, my husband was at a loss as to why I would find a “cat” book so interesting. You see, he is not too fond of cats, but has established a “don’t touch me and you can live here” policy with Duchess. I just know Duchess understands this and purposely goes out of her way to try to rub up against his pant leg. It’s hilarious to watch her saunter over, get into position to rub and he’ll move his leg causing her to almost fall over for which he’ll receive an indignant look.

The one rule that she does not break, at least when we aren’t home, is entering our room and sleeping on our bed. My husband has established that as his domain and Duchess is not to enter it. So when I read the page in Purry Logic that simply stated “Who’s in control of this bed?” I just started laughing.

One of my other favorites is…”If I like it, it’s mine. If I saw it first, it’s mine. If it’s in my paws, it’s mine. If it was already dead, it’s yours.”

Purry Logic is an adorable book for all ages (just ask my 10 yo son) with the pages coming to life with Jane Seabrook’s very talented paintings of 20 different types of cat breeds, which are listed in the back of the book as well. The original paintings are also available for sale at Purry Logic.com.

With the holiday season upon us, this would be a wonderful gift to someone wild about cats. Purry Logic retails for $9.95 at Ten Speed Press.

Are you stuck using your old standard house cleaners? I’ve actually been wanting to use more “green” cleaning products, but to be honest, I had no idea where to start. This green floor cleaner was appealing to me because it is a plant-derived, all-natural floor cleaner with no harmful chemicals. It’s also biodegradable and safely removes dust, dirt, grease, milk, syrup, orange juice, hot sauce and just about anything else embedded on your floors. I’m sure if I thought about this long enough, I’d not only be grossed out, but could come up with a dozen more things on the floor.

It is safe to use on almost any hard floor such as hardwood, linoleum, vinyl, laminate, ceramic tile, grouted tile, marble, non-porous hard surface flooring and no-wax flooring. The suggested retail is $3.99 for a 27-ounce bottle. It can be purchased online and at a selected retailers, including Jewel-Osco, Menards and Hannaford.

My daughter and I tested it out on grouted ceramic tile with our new Wonder Mop. We noticed right away that it did not streak and the clear sink water turned a dirty brown. It wasn’t until a bit later when I bent down to wipe up some water drops and happened to look down at the paper towel…it was still white.

There is always a concern when it comes to choosing a floor cleaner because the kids and our cat. Now we can rest assured that not only are our floors clean, but there are no harmful chemicals being leached into the air or left on the floor.

The second item on the list from Weiman’s was the e-Tronic Wipes. Living a desert it can be quite a challenge tackling the ever existing dust that can accumulate in a mere day. It’s on everything, but I always struggle with what to use on the electronic equipment like the TV, computer screens, DVD player and so on.

For years, I’ve used the old standard sponge mop…dragging out my trusty bucket and stretching my foreman’s in preparation of the traditional squeezing of the sponge. Does it work? Well I can tell you that the dirty sink water above was clear when we started. Both my daughter and I were amazed by how much dirt the Wonder Mop actually picked up.
